Hello and welcome!
Hi,
Welcome to my blog 'confessions of a NHS Health Care Assistant.' I had been pondering about writing a blog about my experiences in the job for a while now, then yesterday, something very special happened at work, and I thought it was about time someone told the story, not of the junior Doctor, or Staff Nurse, but of the Health Care Assistant.
For those not familiar with the job, we are basically untrained Nurses, or Auxiliary Nurses. We are the members of staff that patients see the most of, but we are also the ones forgotten about the most aswell.
If you look at the many Thank You cards on the wall of the hospital, they are all addressed to the Nurses, Doctors, Physios, Occupational Therapists, and of course the Cleaners. Health Care Assistants however rarely get a mention.
Thoughtout this blog, I am going to share some of my experiences, both positive and negative, of being a Health Care assistant on acute medical and surgical wards in a NHS foundation trust.
I love my job, and I find it very rewarding (on the whole) - I would just like it if us HCA's didn't feel quite so invisible.
I will update this blog as work allows, so please be patient...
Enjoy :)
